Swing Tempo

Swing Tempo is the transition of the swing from backswing to downswing and is a key component in determining the correct shaft and shaft weight which is extremely important.

  • Moderate Tempo (or slow) is less aggessive and has a smoother, less 'hurried' look from backswing to impact with the ball. This type of swing can use a lighter weight shaft.
  • Fast tempo means a quick or aggressive transition (almost 'choppy) look from backswing to impact with the ball. This type of swing should use a mid to heavier weight shaft.
  • 3/4 Backswing is a backswing which ends before the hands get above shoulder height. This type of swing MUST use a heavier weight shaft.

In the golf industry, there are over 300 different golf shafts currently available. All of the technical information is available through a shaft index known as the "Dynamic Shaft Fitting Index" (DSFI). This index is the most objective guide in determining the correct shaft for each golfer and we use it for all custom fittings.

Below are the basic levels of golf shaft fitting for custom clubs:

Basic Steel:

  • Normal 5-Iron Distance: 0 - 170 yards
  • Swing Tempo: Slow, Moderate, Fast or players with back swing where the hands are shoulder height or below
